Chasing a Poem

Poet’s Sleep, 1989, by Chang Houg Ahn
The image prompt for Mag 208

She lied in wait
in the shadows of dreams
for the words that escaped her waking hours.
She’d capture her vision
with her pen bleeding
the images on paper,
a shroud extolling the features
of the dead.
Birds sang,
flowers bloomed,
the world turned,
while she chased
the elusive words.

  1. I like the imagery of the pen bleeding images and being a shroud. Words do seem to escape us and be elusive at times…cool when we can capture them in dreams…

  2. To me this stands out as such a relevant verse. I have always wrestled to recall the so lucid details and flow of my dreams after I have woken up.Indeed I have so frequently chased “the elusive words”. Regretfully there is always that ‘pen bleeding’ as it ties to capture those thoughts and nuances onto paper.
