LOVELINESS (for Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #54-Detail)

Petals pool on the ground Time is passing by Flowers droop, one last bow But the dragonfly wings glisten And the sunfish flit in the pond The ugly duckling is becoming a swan Fireflies light the summer nights And tomorrow, dew will bathe the dawning skies. Loveliness happens Even as flowers die.   Last week,Continue reading “LOVELINESS (for Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #54-Detail)”

WOMAN IN THE KAYAK (for Lens-Artist Challenge #52 – Serenity)

Her arms and oar move as one Like breath, rising and falling She glides like a dream Will and body, woman and vessel a harmony the water sings, tunes out the cacophony. She lifts up her face towards the solitude infused skies – Her heart knows its place Her soul beholds more than existence. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Continue reading “WOMAN IN THE KAYAK (for Lens-Artist Challenge #52 – Serenity)”

A WALK IN THE SWAMPLAND

Our feet pounded on the boardwalk The sun hammered on our heads The cattails stood still on the swamp Would the trail ever end? Reeds and more reeds stretched around us Their heads drooped as though in shame No music wafted from their wicked green pipes, No sparrow played on their slender blades.Continue reading “A WALK IN THE SWAMPLAND”

A FISHY STORY

Ashen skin glisten beneath incandescent bulbs Lifeless eyes stare wide-eyed at customers feeling their flesh for firmness Sweat and blood mingle on the muddy floor Voices rise voices fall earnest haggling ends in a bargain Ah, the sultry heat seeps out of skins Money changes hands dead bodies are wrapped in yesterday’s news andContinue reading “A FISHY STORY”

According to Poetry Foundation, aContinue reading “SALUTE TO BEAUTY”

LET MUSIC BE

Touch the music gently. Let the notes descend like mist Crowning a blossom with dewdrops wary of bending a petal with its weight Let music rest like a feather On a bed of tender bluets Each a complement to the other’s spirit Let the melody whisper its own sweet words Touching the heart like aContinue reading “LET MUSIC BE”

IN THE WOODS

I dare not breathe lest I disturb the fragile silence cradling the whisper of butterfly wings and the caress of breeze on the water. I tread gently lest I break the silence that lets the squirrels out of their nest to play in the woods or a deer to linger at the forest’s edge. IContinue reading “IN THE WOODS”

MEMORIAL

Tucked in the woods, by an abandoned rural road, a little old cemetery lies.  About fifty weathered gravestones rise from the wildflower and grass-covered ground.  Nobody visits the place.  After all, the most recent gravestone was placed in the early 1900’s. However, when Memorial Day comes, new flags fly in the graveyard, specifically by theContinue reading “MEMORIAL”
