ISOLATION

Days fold into each other –
amorphous monotony beats within walls.
I am the hands of a tuneless clock
constantly moving in circles.

The outside world is as far as an arm
stretched out of the window,
so within reach, so out of reach
isolation crescendoes –

the skies are overcast and grey
spring flowers are blooming unseen
mallards and geese frolic in the pond
oblivious to corona’s ill wind.

fear-laden prayers rise to Heaven –
when will we be free and terror contained?
The smell of baking bread wafts in the kitchen;
the Angelus bells toll their benediction.

How are you all?  I hope that you are all well and healthy.  To those who are sick, I pray for your quick recovery.  Take care all of you.  We live in crazy times.  Hang in there.  This too shall pass.

Let nothing disturb you,
Let nothing frighten you,
All things pass away:
God never changes.
Patience obtains all things.
He who has God
Finds he lacks nothing;
God alone suffices.

    1. Mabuti naman kami. Awa ng Diyos, kakaunti ang cases ng virus (relatively) sa area namin. Kayo? I hope safe and healthy kayong lahat.

      1. They haven’t done mass testing yet so that figure of 3,098 positive might even double. We’re doing good, thank you. Take care always 🙂

  1. Thank you for the beautiful pictures and words. The imagery in the first stanza is my favorite, but I also love how the tone shifts hopeful later.

    1. Hi Mei-mei.
      I hope all’s well with you, crazy times and all. Thank you for the feedback. (sorry for my very late response. There have been so many things going on, including difficulty writing and such, that I could visit this page/blog only once in a while). Anyway, with what we are facing right now, hope is the only reasonable response.

    1. Hi, Amy. Thanks so much. Sorry for the late reply. So many things have been going on, including a serious writer’s block, that I get to check my page/blog only very rarely. I hope life is good even in these crazy times. Take care.
