DRIFTING

Two voices singing
Drowning in their song

Butterflies
Flying on broken wings
Looking for home

The waves of the sea
Aching for the shore

The cosmos is a cell
The cell is an abyss
For two bodies
Face to face
Holding on to nevermore.

Written for DVERSE’s Poetics Prompt: Lost in Translation where Laura asked the habitues to write a response to any of the featured poems and to the Quadrille prompt where De asked folks to use “Voice” in a 44-word poem. .  This piece is a reaction to  Two Bodies by Octavio Paz:

Two bodies face to face
are at times two waves
and night is an ocean.

 Two bodies face to face
are at times two stones
and night a desert.

Two bodies face to face
are at times two roots
laced into night.

Two bodies face to face
are at times two knives
and night strikes sparks.

Two bodies face to face
are two stars falling
in an empty sky.
