Doors lead to doors
I only enter with trepidation
what’s in store
behind the door
Hope is my pray’r.
I am not a seer
I could not count all the costs
but I am fairly sure
choices have consequences
some come soon
others later.
I am afraid
to open a door
yet,
even if I just stand
out in the cold
afraid to move
or content to be still
life goes on
somehow
I am changed
and often moved
to a door
that’s not of my choosing.
Doors lead to doors
opening and closing
Is there a door
that brings one back to the beginning?
Doors
lead to doors
what do I gain
what do I lose
by being?

Written with DVERSE Jazzy prompt in mind. I am not a jazzy or hip hop kind of gal so I am not sure if this one met the poetic standards for the prompt. 🙂 The piece is in free loosely rhyming short verses though as suggested by Amaya.
The image is a picture of a door from one of Yale University’s beautiful buildings.
I like the line about hope being one’s prayer.
Thanks, Frank. 🙂
Doors not of our own choosing. I know that well, but they still turn out to be the ‘right’ ones.
True. Often, I find myself praying for doors to be closed so I have an easier time choosing. 🙂
I really like the thought of doors behind doors… somehow that’s how life is… isn’t it?
Indeed. 🙂 Life is a series of choices – closing and opening, and such. 🙂 Thanks for the feedback, Bjorn. 🙂
I think of revolving doors and if we don’t get moving, we are stuck unless someone pushes us to a direction not of our choosing ~ Have a good weekend ~
But maybe, letting oneself be pushed is a decision in itself.
Thanks, Grace. Have a great week to you. 🙂
So many doors in a lifetime – the adventure is exploring what’s behind them. An amazing journey, this life.
Thanks for the lovely comment. Indeed, opening those doors is an adventure. 🙂
Love the door metaphor. Doors behind doors – this is the way of life. You’ve given much food for thought!
Thanks for the feedback, Angela. 🙂 Have a great week.
Great Question! Just like the price is right! We all hope we pick the right one, but sometimes we bomb!
Dwight
We do make mistakes, but, unlike The Price is Right, we have second chances. 🙂
Yes, very good point.
I could not count all the costs
but I am fairly sure
choices have consequences
Very true, one can never win them all.
Hank
Thanks, Hank. 🙂
Fabulous meter!
Thanks, Jilly. 🙂
I like the pace and informal rhyming. The subject matter reminds me of those “choose your own adventure” books, except with real consequences. And I’m a huge fan of doors!
Thanks for the kind words. 🙂
Love this
Thanks so much. 🙂

I got a feel of either momentum or continued resistance in this. You are brilliant.
Thank you very much for the kind words, Pharaoh. 🙂
