Scarlet berries break the grey
winter, life stripped to its bones
pristine under the cover of snow
beauty skin deep
pierced by thorns dripping blood
seeds of life.

I am so looking forward to spring. In the dead of winter, even the Barberry bush that I normally do not care for, has its merits. It has little red berries that lend a little color to the sad winter scene. 🙂

That is a very beautiful shot. Wish i could pluck a berry from that tree.
Stunning! I love snow covered plants, they look like something out of a fairytale!
yes I agree, even the much maligned barberry bush has its merits in winter…I will try to love it come spring though I am sure its thorns have it in for me.
So lovely!
nice spiritual allusions in this…the berries and snow…the blood and the body…
It certainly has a value at this time of year. Lovely writing
The red of the berries is stunning against the white snow. Makes me think of cranberries dusted with icing sugar 🙂 Lovely poem too Imelda.
Fabulous!Loved the imagery and yes “beauty is skin deep”:-)
“…life stripped to its bones…” Me encanta!!!! Precioso poema Imelda! Ya ves…Dicen que no se echa de menos algo hasta que nos falta! We need to learn to pay attention to the little things that surrounds us…
Lovely winter scene, Imelda. Love your poem. 🙂
