THE LOVELIEST ROSE

The loveliest rose
is the one on my hand
lending me beauty
beauty I had wished to have
lending me beauty
at the price of my blood.

Lovely Rose
I had been posting pictures of ‘flawless’ roses. In the process, I got comments about my gardening skills. Here is my reality check – inevitably, the rose leaves (and even the flowers) get diseased and deformed and I do not know how to deal with the problem. 🙂 The flowers remain gorgeous anyway.

Thank you for coming by. I am linking up with dVERSE POETS’ PUB’s Open Link Night. 🙂

  1. Roses are my absolute favourite, especially old varieties as they have the perfume. The hybrids may be more reliable for shape but I prefer things which are a bit mishapen and smell divine.

    1. This spring, I bought my first old rosé, Jacques Cartier. I am excited to see and smell its flowers. I also have some David Austins. I always wondered about the famed English roses and, after seeing their blooms, I understood why English roses are legendary. I prefer them more than the modern hybrid teas.

  2. Love the poem and photo Imelda. Could it be some kind of lice or insect that causes it? Roses are so delicate and so pretty. 😀

  3. maybe try to plant lavender..they like and protect each other…beauty at the price of my blood..i like… everything in life has a price…a good reminder

    1. Really? We have lavender here but it is planted in a different spot. I’ll see if I can transplant some near the roses.
      Thanks, Claudia. 🙂
