Man
a frail creature of a few exalted years
before he turns to dust
though his will wishes otherwise.
Yet,
God is mindful of him
the psalmist asked why
and answered
a little less than the angels he was made
Bah! would the angels have wept
at this comparison
to man?!
who time and again
have shown that a great chasm
separates him from the angels
But –
as certain as it is
that like all creation
his body will fade away
he is exalted
and favored
with a soul
the image and likeness of God
the Breath that destined him for eternal life
even when man denies it with all his might.

This was written for DVERSE Poets’ Pub – Interactions. Gretchen’s prompt was to writ a poem that was inspired by music. Nimrod from Enigma Variations by Edward Elgar is a lovely piece of music. Each variation was about somebody close to the composer. For some interesting tidbits about this musical suite, visit here.
Thank you for coming by. A blessed Sunday to you. 🙂
Beautiful, as is the music to accompany it.
frail creatures we are, living in a fragile world.. i wonder sometimes what the angels think..and i’m looking forward to what is waiting for us over there…smiles…now off to check out your link as well…happy sunday to you
it is humbling isnt it…that despite all our failings…we rank higher than the angels…bear the likeness and a soul….humbling, always…
Beautiful composition that is complemented by the music Imelda. Happy Sunday to you too 🙂
the image and likeness of God
the Breath that destined him for eternal life
even when man denies it with all his might.
I know, it’s a sad, faithless world we live in today.
