ONE NIGHT

Someone tried to erase the moon

It got all smudged and gone

he covered it with clouds so grey

did he want rain to come?

In the dark, not so cold night

tiny stars flitted by

Cicadas filled the air

with their halting lullaby.

Then Β the dark silence

was pierced by crowing so loud

the voice of a thousand roosters

chased the shadows out of bounds.

But moon refused to appear

I guess it got too shy

when the light of day

peeked in the sky.
