The following is my response to this week’s Trifecta challenge –

Trifecta: Week Twenty-Two –

which asks us to give a response in 33-333 words to the word  ‘scandal‘ – which for this purpose is defined as 3 a: a circumstance or action that offends propriety or established moral conceptions or disgraces those associated with it
b : a person whose conduct offends propriety or morality

I am also submitting this to Bloggy Moms’ Writers’ Workshop in response to to the prompt –

Everyone has a favorite quote. This week, I want you to write using your favorite quote as inspiration.

This response follows the life of Teresa/Zoraya, Mother, and Talent Manager in Making a Star.   These stories and the characters  are inspired by Philippine show business.  As such, the language, even if it is in English, may be a tad difficult to understand.  For one, let me explain that in Philippine usage, ‘blind item’ is that sort of ‘news’ – made up or not – that does not name, directly, the people and circumstances involved.  Its main purpose is to excite the listener and alas, to propagate a gossiping culture. 🙂

And before I forget, I am sorry for my failure to respond to comments made to Making a Star.  Gmail failed to tell me about the comments.

Thank you all.

He groaned when he heard the showbiz talk radio host blabbering about his latest ‘blind’ item –

“Guess who this popular young star is who was seen coming out of an OB Gyn clinic. My mole tells me that it was over a much delayed monthly visitor. Uhhmmm Fishy fishy. I am told that the likely father is her much married leading man in a recent blockbuster. Aha! Are you surprised, fellow stargazers? Not me-ee. She’s been hard to handle lately, or so I heard. To think, this young star is, SUPPOSEDLY, closely guarded by her Mommy. Clue? You need another clue? Her name begins with Zzzzzz… yawwwwn… Z?! Zipper? WAHAHAHA She should have kept that zipper up, you say? Zo…zoo …funny! Stay tuned, we’ll be back.”

Soon, he was on the phone with the loquacious host – “You’re making this up.”

“Where there’s smoke, there’s fire, remember?” sassed the host. “Why don’t you talk to your ward?” he added with ill concealed glee.

And that was just what he, the prudent talent manager that he is, did as soon as he managed to get Mother and Zoraya in his office. Mother and daughter listened to his rather loud monologue while they, with much difficulty, tried to follow his mad pacing and gesturing.

“No no no! Don’t you know that you can’t get pregnant? You can’t have a boyfriend, whatever. You….you can make any scandal as you wish. I’ll get you out of it. But please please not this, this pregnant thing. Or years, years of hard work, all your projects, all those endorsements – they will all go down the drain. Wasted….. Wasted!”

Spent and tired at last, he slumped on his seat and fell silent. Then, he lifted his head, looked at Zoraya and asked – “By the way, are you pregnant?”

    • Thank you Dana. 🙂 I find myself without much time these days – what with all of the spring chores. I am learning first hand that one can only write about what he knows.

  1. I’m enjoying these characters and the way you write. Thanks for linking up. Hope you can join us for the weekend prompt which is already up on the site. It’s community judging this weekend, so get your entry in and get voting!

      • Ah, I can’t believe I have not replied to your comment. Senior moment, I say. 🙂
Thank you for the nice words.
I am enjoying WordPress too, it is so simple to use and looks pretty. 🙂
        Best regards.

      • I have been lax on Bloggy Moms, but I will be adding a new challenge later today. Trying to get back into the swing of things.

  2. I was going to say ‘no worries’ then I saw your post on Bloggy Moms. That is a very interesting prompt. I hope I can come up with something. 🙂 And yes, I am glad you are back in the swing of things. 🙂
